Dear Editor,
There is a deliberate attempt by some members of the upper echelons of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) to sabotage the process of remedying our plight at Kurupung. They are covering up the atrocities committed by some members of the management staff.
There is one particular officer who seems to be highly protected due to the number of atrocities that have been committed by him. There is enough evidence pointing towards that particular individual to warrant an investigation into his conduct, but no action has been taken.
This individual has to be UNTOUCHABLE because there is no known investigation by the administration into the conduct of this officer’s behaviour, although substantial evidence is pointing in his direction. The persistent calling for an investigation into those matters have gone unanswered.
The cover up has been taking numerous forms: (1), the removal of documents from the entire system including my claim files. There has to be some form of collusion; for a letter to be missing from an entire system without a trace when there is a listing system in place that can only happen through collusion.
One particular letter has gone missing even after it had attracted the attention of some of the highest offices of the land, including the President, Mr. David Granger, Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Raphael Trotman and Chairman of the Board for the GGMC, Mr Stanley Ming.
This letter which was dated June 26, 2015 was seeking answers to the skulduggery taking place at GGMC. The letter was delivered to the commission and a research was completed by a senior officer. He told me that he was instructed to withhold the findings from me of litigation.
That letter was sent several times to the commission as a reminder, after I realised that a certain amount of time had elapsed and there was no response. It is difficult to conceive how that particular letter could go missing from the entire system.
(2) There are two other missing letters without any trace of them in the entire system, although there are delivery stamps and dates attached to them from the GGMC’s office. Those letters are dated November 2, and November 8, 2013. They are involved in a matter which is currently before the court.
The most horrendous part of my situation are the attempts by the commission to cover up the wrongdoings of those highly corrupt officials by their non-response to my letters, and, the lengthy delays in the accessing of information, especially if it is been determined to be sensitive by the administration.
There is the issue of the misinformation, when they are being forced to give answers they don’t want to, they usually put a twist to it at various degrees depending on the client they are dealing with. I am in possession of some of those misinformed letters. I am also awaiting response to the many letters that the commission has chosen not to reply to. Some of the requests I was seeking are:
(1). Closing date for the Third Disposal of Mineral Properties, 2009, the granting of the five-mile radius which was promised to us the Bona fide residents of Kurupung. The rescinding of the controversial Mining Permits to areas which were already allotted to the bona fide residents of Kurupung and also against their own regulation 27(2) which clearly states that cancelled Mining Permit area shall be held in reserve for the disposal by a process of biding or lottery.
The issuing of Mining Permits to a wealthy mining company that occupies areas that were already allotted to the bona fide residents of Kurupung; the seeking of resolution to the nullification of my claim which was deemed Nullified for the reason of overlapping when it was the only claim that had been verified, even though the verification process for the second claim was alleged to have taken place five months after the pronouncement of the nullification of my claim.
There have been a lot of illegal activities taking place with my claims in the recent past, and they are all pointing to a particular group of persons.
I am calling on the relevant authority to launch an investigation into his conduct and work ethics of this so-call UNTOUCHABLE before irreparable damage is done to the commission.
Small miner.
