Ranks in B Division have detained one person in connection with the armed robbery that took place last Sunday in Number 65 village. This was confirmed by the Divisional Commander Lindon Alves. He also divulged that investigators are seeking another person of interest.
Mike’s Beer Heaven (Murphy’s) was on Sunday night invaded by five masked men, armed with AK-47’s and shotguns.
The business, owned by Krisendatt Hemnauth aka ‘Murphy,’ was stormed by the gun-toting bandits sometime around 19:30 hrs after Hemnauth had just secured his main gate.
The men were caught on surveillance footage ordering customers to lie on the ground as they searched them.
The businessman had told Kaieteur News that one of the men opened the gate while he stuck his gun through the grill, “dem tell everybody fuh go on we belly and dem just walk in and throw up a shot in the air and one out of the four come straight to me and he lash me on me head and I fall and me turn back. When I turn back he lash me in me head again and me na move back”.
After entering the shop and ordering everyone in the building to face down, the bandits searched the customers and took away cellphones and cash. The men also grabbed money from the cash drawer. Hemnauth’s 21-year-old son who was also at the shop was kicked and stomped on by one of the bandits. Hemnauth sustained a gash to his left side temple.
The shop owner disclosed that a customer who was also present during the ordeal was the only person that was not searched. This, he said, was seen on the surveillance footage.
The men, after grabbing the cash and cellular phones, made good their escape the same way they entered, but not after locking the customers and the proprietor in the shop. A door was also damaged after one of the perpetrators smashed his gun on the locks.
One of the customers who was told to lie on the ground while being searched and robbed, stated that he was robbed of $44,000 and a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Hemnauth was robbed of $35,000 from the cash drawer in the shop and his son was robbed of $100,000. Hemnauth also rents the front of the building to Superbet. Over $1 Million was carted off in total, along with six cellphones.
