Two brothers were late yesterday afternoon detained at the Springlands Police Station after police received information that they attempted to pervert the course of justice by way of influencing a key witness to change the outcome of the Faiyaz Narinedatt murder trial.
Police sources have revealed to this publication that the brothers, who are neighbours of the said key witness, tried to persuade him to change his story when giving evidence in court. This information was filtered to authorities and was acted upon promptly. The men are presently in police custody and are being questioned.
Only a week ago, three persons including controversial Attorney Chandra Sohan, Marcus Bisram’s mother and another witness, were detained for witness tampering.
Meanwhile, the Preliminary Inquiry into the murder of Faiyaz Narinedatt, the murdered Carpenter of Number 70 Village continued yesterday with two ranks attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters giving evidence.
Detective Corporal Cecil O’Brian attached to the fraud section of CID Headquarters and Detective Komal Pitama of Major Crimes Unit both appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga.
The prosecution was led by Attorney Stacy Goodings and Attorney Abigail Gibbs of the DPP’s Chambers. The five accused who are on trial for the murder were represented by Attorney-at-law Siand Dhurjon, who stood in for Attorney Sanjeev Datadin.
Wife of the murdered Carpenter Pooja Pitam was present during the court proceedings.
The PI continues next Monday, November 6.
Five men, including Bisram’s bodyguard, were charged with Faiyaz Narinedatt’s murder. Bisram, police have alleged, procured and commanded Orlando Dickie, Radesh Motie, Diodath Datt, Harri Paul Parsram, and Niran Yacoob, to murder Narinedatt between October 31 and November 1, 2016, at Number 70 Village, Berbice.
Bisram was nabbed in the US in July and is now on remand, facing extradition, following a ruling by New York Judge Peggy Kuo. The extradition decision was handed down earlier in the month.
