DEAR EDITOR,
Information has been gathered that Region One (Barima-Waini) has a Regional Intelligence Committee (RIC). This is quite interesting. But what are the goals and objectives of this RIC which is based at Mabaruma? No one knows.
I am of the impression that the work of this RIC is basically to monitor the operations of Governmental entities in the Barima-Waini region and to take corrective actions if those operations are not in the best interests of the North West District (NWD) residents.
But if this is so, then the RIC has failed miserably and is currently useless or it is in a state of paralysis.
A simple indicator of this is my letters to sections of the media on the poor performance of government entities as reported by NWD residents. I am informed that the RIC is meeting. In this regard, I wish to ask the RIC what it is doing about the following:
(1) The entry of Venezuelans into the Mabaruma sub-region without being checked by the Morawhanna immigration to sell fuel. These Venezuelans can be found at the Kumaka Waterfront Area and some who murdered Guyanese miners in the Polvodero mining area were spotted by Mabaruma residents;
(2) The long time taken for guards who provide security for government’s buildings and assets to receive their monthly salaries;
(3) The engagement of some school teachers and Welfare Officers in catering services with the full knowledge of the Mabaruma Department of Education;
(4) The wandering of female children in Baramita village during the nights at rum shops where miners are found;
(5) The lack of a medical superintendent and administrator for the Mabaruma hospital for the prevention of poor management, and;
(6) The prevention of land theft in the Haimakabra community, a satellite of Waramuri village in the Moruca sub-region.
The Mabaruma Regional Intelligence Committee (RIC) needs to answer those and other concerns and questions.
