Dear Editor,
As leader of the Organisation for the Victory of the People (OVP), I have unapologetically voiced my criticism of APNU+AFC policies and performance in government. I have voiced my disagreement with their adherence to the neo-liberal capitalist project and have lamented their lack of vision at many forums and in numerous articles and letters.
However, I cannot allow nonsense to pass for analysis. I am hearing people opine that there is no difference between the past PPP government and the present government. This is the kind of historical amnesia that is so often prevalent in Guyana.
The youths coming up may start to believe this absolutely fallacious claim if it is not corrected. I am in a position to correct this erroneous notion because I was at the forefront of the struggle against the PPP and their associates.
In fact, I had to leave my country and go into voluntary exile for a period or I would not been alive today. Let’s get this right and make no mistake – the PPP was a death squad regime who collaborated with drug lords and criminals to wreak havoc in Guyana during their 23 year reign of terror.
This is not opinion; it is substantiated fact, substantiated by evidence produced at the New York trial of Roger Khan himself.
Truth is, many who are speaking out loudly now, kept their mouths for fear of losing their lives. And this was a very real fear. I myself had death notices pinned to the door of my home and on numerous occasions, had to evacuate my wife and children from our home on the basis of rumours reported to me that the Phantom was coming to our home that night. Those who did speak up paid a heavy price. My friend and colleague, Ronald Waddell paid the ultimate price.
There is an absurd notion in Guyana that if one is critical of the current government, one is either equating them with the past PPP government or paving the way for the PPP to come back to power. The very fact that Jagdeo and his cohorts dare to even speak about justice and democracy is a travesty, not to mention the fact that they stole billions of dollars in state assets while in power.
The PPPC must never be allowed to return to political office, and any attempt by them to do so, must be opposed by any means necessary. Those who have ears to hear, let them hear.
