Ramesh Persaud, 44, of Lot 32 Saywah Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, was not allow to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on October 15, at Cane Grove, he unlawfully killed Harrinarine Ramwaj.
The accused was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva. The attorney asked that bail be granted to his client, since he was attacked by the deceased and his father, and he acted in self-defence.
The lawyer added that his client is also the virtual complainant in another matter where the deceased man’s father wounded him.
Persaud was ordered to make his next court appearance on December 1.
According to reports, Ramawaj, 31, of Estate Road, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, lost his life, and his father, Chanderpaul Ramawaj, 59, had two of his fingers hacked off during the brawl.
According to information the man and his father went to their cash crop farm— which had been in operation for over 40 years—where they discovered some of their banana plants damaged and a wooden structure erected.
An argument broke out between the farmers and the labourer, who dealt them several chops about their bodies.
Harrinarine and his father were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where Harrinarine succumbed to his injuries.
