The Lions Club of Georgetown yesterday celebrated 16-years of service. It observed the occasion with a feeding programme for the destitute. Close to 100 persons of all ages were given food and juice.
President of the Club, June Leitch, said this was just one of the few projects that the club has been doing over a period of time, as they celebrate the anniversary.
At the Bounty Supermarket, parking lot on Regent Street, persons came and were fed. The destitute persons were made aware of the programme as various members of the club would have told them about it earlier on Tuesday.
As part of the celebrations, Leitch said there was also a medical outreach last Saturday where the club collaborated with the Ministry of Public Health and the Guyana Defense Force, at the Stabroek Market Square, to conduct eye testing, diabetes and blood pressure testing. Persons also took the opportunity to donate blood.
