Police at the Madewini Outpost are conducting investigations into the death of 50-year old Joseph Harmon following an accident in Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara that occurred last Wednesday around 06:45hrs.
Police sources said that the suspect, Duwane Gaime, 28, attended court, yesterday, and pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing death.
Bail was granted in the sum of $250,000.
Gaime was the alleged driver of the motor lorry, bearing registration number GRR 9592 that hit the victim. Harmon lived with his 75-year old mother in Relief Public Road and had four sons.
He lost his life when he exited a route 42 minibus that was heading to Georgetown. The minibus bearing registration number BSS 8672 was driven by the 32 year-old Gaime.
The man’s relative told this newspaper that he was an employee at National Hardware, Coverden, EBD and was on his way home at the time of the accident.
According to reports, the lorry and minibus were proceeding north on the western side of the public road and motor car PTT 9066 was proceeding in the opposite direction when the minibus stopped to pick up a passenger.
The man reportedly exited the bus to allow another passenger to pass in when the motor lorry lost control and hit him, he was standing on the pavement.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Breathalyzer tests were conducted on the drivers which detected no alcohol.
