– released on bail
A man appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan on Tuesday charged with statutory rape—having sexual intercourse or other sexual relations with a person under the legal age of consent.
The man was released on $120,000 bail after denying the allegation brought against him by his 12-year-old relative. The rape accused was instructed to make another court appearance on October 30.
Based on information received, the 12-year-old girl had been staying with the relative in September during which he engaged in sexual activity with her.
It was recently discovered by her parents that she had been raped and police were called in to investigate.
Kaieteur News was informed that police are conducting further investigation after the under aged girl made similar allegations against other male relatives.
The Child Care and Protection Agency was called in after receiving reports that the girl was being sodomised. The attack on her was so severe that she had to undergo surgery.
Kaieteur News had previously reported that the girl’s stepfather and a male relative had been reportedly sodomising her, with consent from her mother ever since she was 11.
Reports indicate that the mother herself was repeatedly sodomised by her partner.
The mother reportedly suggested that the partner turn his attention to her daughter.
Nevertheless, the mother and stepfather were also taken into custody.
