A man, who is well known to the authorities after he was previously charged with murder and was on trial for attempted murder, has been jailed for eight years after he pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding with intent.
He was initially charged with attempted murder.
The man, Bheem Evans, called “Lyo” 55, and father of eight, of Woodley Park, West Coast Berbice appeared before Justice Jo Ann Barlow in the Berbice High Court.
Evans was accused of attempting to murder Anil Kalamudeen at Number 11 Village, West Berbice. The incident reportedly occurred on November 11, 2015.
After his trial commenced on the charge of attempt murder, the man changed his plea to wounding with intent. The convict had given a statement in which he admitted committing the act.
He had admitted to injuring the man with a cutlass after the man wounded his sons. Justice Barlow before passing sentence told the convict that he could not take the law into his own hands.
He was committed to stand trial after a preliminary inquiry was conducted.
Back in 2013 Evans was charged with killing Jaipaul Sampuran, alias ‘Jai’, which occurred at Number 11 Village, West Coast Berbice between June 28 and June 29 that year.
He is also awaiting trial on another charge of attempting to murder Price Ramoo 22, a cane cutter of Block 166 D Edward, West Coast Berbice. The incident reportedly occurred on December 27, 2016 at Black Wall Street, D Edward.
