Dear Editor,
While people all over the world are faced with disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, floods, etc., Guyana is not experiencing any of the serious problems others face in terms of climate change, changing weather patterns, pollution, etc.
Our country is truly blessed despite some small natural problems such as heavy winds, small scale flooding, crime, violence and so no. It means that God blessed us in unique ways. The only hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes and other disasters we experience are all man made in most instances.
Every five years we pray that the politicians and their cronies change their behaviours so that we can enjoy the good life but are left disappointed over and over.
Each time, the winner of our national elections replicate all the wrongs committed by their predecessors, ushering more man made hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. which assault our livelihoods while they increase their girths and pockets, together with that of their families, friends and relatives. If anything is left, they then give these crumbs to the wretched of our country.
When will this end, only God knows for our poor and needy along with their leaders are in permanent stupor resulting from the mauling they have received over fifty years. We seem to be dead as a people for we have stopped thinking altogether.
