– Says she accused him of being unfaithful
A 36-year-old man told investigators yesterday that he got angry when his wife, Savitri Deolall, accused him of being unfaithful and threw a kerosene stove on her to keep her quiet.
This caused the mother of three to sustain third degree burns to more than 75 percent of her body. She is currently clinging to life in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s Intensive Care Unit.
The suspect, Ravin Ramroop, is in police custody at the Vigilance Police Station. Initially, he had told police ranks that his wife burnt herself as she was trying to frame him, but when he was further grilled yesterday, he admitted to the crime.
At present, Deolall is attached to a life support machine; doctors have listed her condition as critical. On Monday night when she was rushed to the health institution, she had informed the medical practitioners that it was her husband who burnt her.
The youngest child of the woman said that her mother was often abused by the man but she was scared to make a complaint. The 14-year old daughter recalled her mother being slapped by the man, causing her to bleed on one occasion.
She even explained that she could not have recognized her mother, since her entire body was black and swollen while her hair texture was also different.
The couple has been in a common-law relationship for seven years and lived in Lot 2 Good Hope, Railway Line Embankment, East Coast Demerara. They do not have children together.
