The Guyana Defence Force followed up their combative 34-29 victory over the mighty Panthers team last week with a devastating 62-10 victory over an almost clueless Police Falcons unit yesterday at the National Park Track and Field pitch when the Bounty Farm 15s continued. GDF, the more
experienced side, were led by Cloyd Prowell with 13 points (1 try, 4 conversions) along with national 7s player Patrick King who raced away with a game high 12 points, inclusive of 2 tries and one conversion.
The developing Police Falcons team did not bring the usual competitiveness that Police vs. GDF encounters usually relish and by half time, the 80-minute game was far from their reach as they trailed by 21-points with the score at 26-5. At full time, Police suffered a battering 52-point defeat; only Rashad Butcher and Daniel De Abreau stepped up and scored a try each for the Falcons.
Meanwhile, in addition to King and Prowell dominating the score sheet for GDF, Toyton Braithwaite who scored the game opener, Delon De Abreau, Breon Walks, Rodwell Hutson, Aluka Venture and Dwayne Schroeder all scored, in the effortless win.
Patrick King, one of the leading players in GDF and Guyana expressed disgust in GDF’s play in the first half, “We played a great game last week against Panthers and I think this week we took Police for granted during the first half but we put it together during the second half and got the tries we were looking for.”
On a personal note, King who will be looking to help lead Guyana to Glory in next month’s Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7s tournament stated that, “I’m still working on my speed a lot, with some focus on strength training.
The meet in Mexico next month is going to be tough but we need to do well to qualify for the Commonwealth Games among other major events. I know my importance to the team so I’m training hard to keep my standards up and even surpass my best.”
