A minister is to visit the Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara, area today after several vendors descended on her office yesterday.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI), Annette Ferguson, will be attempting to work with the vendors and others who have received letters to remove from the area by the ministry.
According to Member of Parliament, Michael Carrington, he was contacted by worried vendors yesterday. He said based on his count, 51 of them, mostly women, will be affected.
Currently, a major road project, costing US$46M is ongoing in Region Three with concentration on the busy Vreed-en-Hoop junction area.
In addition to car and minibus parks, the area boasts shopping plazas, food stalls, gas stations and banks. In recent years, the junction has become congested, with vending contributes to the situation.
Last month, the MPI issued Notice of Violations to several persons on the West Coast, including vendors. These would be for persons operating on road reserves and property line-to-property line.
Among the affected were barber shops, car parks, containers, derelict vehicles, no stopping signs, workshops, tyre servicing and sand and stone heap, among other obstructions.ties
