A minibus conductor was yesterday arraigned before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for allegedly having a component of ammunition in his possession.
Anthony Pereira, 23, of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara denied the charged which alleged that on September 29 at Croal Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession a .32 spent shell.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne told the court that on the day in question police on patrol duty in the area conducted a search on the defendant and the spent shell was found in his pants pocket.
He was then told of the offence which he denied. Magistrate Azore then ordered the defendant to post $25,000 bail.
Meanwhile in the same courtroom, a Kitty man was released on $180,000 bail by Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore after denying two robbery charges.
Twenty- year-old Lester Hopkinson of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, denied the charge which alleged that between September 25 and September 26 at William Street Kitty, while being in the company of another he stole one motorcycle CH 4367 valued $350,000 property of the virtual complainant Alonzo Mark.
It was further alleged that on August 13, last, at William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he stole one motorcycle valued $180,000 property of the virtual complainant Compton Miller.
The unrepresented man when given a chance to address the court said, “I can’t believe this.
I don’t know why they move the case from magistrate Judy Latchman. I don’t understand what is really going on in this case your worship.
“The police officers put a black bag over my head. I don’t care whatever happen will have to happen.”
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant.
Both men will make their next court appearance on October 25.
