Residents of the Palms Geriatric Home were treated to a sumptuous breakfast in commemoration of International Day of the Older Persons.
International Day of the Older Persons was observed on October 1, 2017. Delivering the good deed were members of Lodge Alpha No. 1594. The targeted recipients were residents of Male Wards One and Three of the institutions.
The men were also presented with kits comprising personal hygiene items by the Right Worshipful Master Bro. Reginald Brotherson A.A. who was accompanied by other Brethrens of the Lodge.
Brotherson said that the Lodge is involved in a lot of charitable work for the less fortunate in society. “There is much about Freemasonry that is not easily understood by many, which leads to various levels of conjecture and misinformation. However, as Freemasons, we place a lot of emphasis on charity and benevolence.
“Whenever or where ever we see a need that we can contribute towards tangibly, to bring relief, we get involved,” said Brotherson.
He cited the gesture at the Palms as one such endeavour “where we decided to bring some level of good cheer and relief to some of the residents of this institution by providing them with breakfast and care packages.”
This year the theme for International Day of Older Persons was: “Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society.”
October is also the anniversary month of Lodge Alpha which will be celebrating 55 years as a Scottish Lodge in Guyana. There are a number of activities earmarked for this month continuing with a church service at St. Andrew’s Kirk on Sunday.
