A Police Constable attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) was released on $80,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to four traffic offences in relation to an accident he was involved in with a female motorcyclist on Sunday at Ruimveldt Public Road.
Nigel Griffith, 20, of Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He denied the charges which alleged that he drove motorcar PSS 4303 while he was under the influence of alcohol; driving an uninsured motor vehicle; driving an unlicensed motor vehicle and driving an uncertified motor vehicle.
During a bail application, Attorney-at-Law Sonia Parag told the court that her client had borrowed the car form his uncle. Griffith was granted $20,000 bail on each of the charges and was instructed to make another court appearance on October 10.
Police in a statement said that the police constable’s breath alcohol content was over the legal limit at the time of the accident. Police also said that all documents for the vehicle were expired.
According to the police statement, the police rank was driving the motor car north on the Ruimveldt Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate when he struck down Gem Simone Hall of Lot 22 Walker Terrace, Costello Housing Scheme, Georgetown who was on a motorcycle.
Hall who sustained injuries was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
