Led by a well constructed century by Ravi Beharry and a six wicket haul by off spinner Deoraj Dindyal, Aurora Knightriders easily defeated GT Warriors in their matchup played last Sunday in the South Essequibo 40-overs Cricket Tournament at the Hibernia Cricket Ground.
On a small ground and fast outfield, the Warriors won the toss and invited the Knightriders to take first strike. Beharry stroked an entertaining 120 (9×4,11×6), Dindyal 72 (12×4,3×6),Weyon Friendz a cameo 38 (6×6), while Timur Gafoor chipped in with 28 and Anwar Buksh 33 not out in the Knigtriders 407-9 when their overs expired.
Bowling for GT Warriors, Andy Dass grabbed 2-52, G. Sharma 2-60, while there was a wicket apiece for Patrick Rooplall and Moses Ferriera.
The Warriors’ reply was hampered by some aggressive fast bowling by Friendz and Saieef Ally. In the end, the Warriors could only muster 199 all out in 23.1 overs. G. Sharma led with 75 (5×4,7×6), while Andy Dass supported with 41 (4×4,2×6). Man of the Match Dindyal grabbed 6-40, Friendz 2-33, while Ally had 1-30.
Meanwhile, the South Essequibo T/20 final which was slated for the previous weekend between the same two teams was abandoned due to heavy early morning rain. As such, both teams were declared joint winners.
