Construction of Bagotville Bridge, West Bank Demerara, began yesterday after several months of the structure being a one-way due to structural problems. GAICO Construction has won the $97M contract with the construction of a two-lane bypass bridge starting yesterday. The bypass is set to be completed Sunday with the main construction to be completed next week.
The bridge is a critical one linking the West Bank Demerara public road to the Canal Polders area and several villages including Wales and Patentia.
Because of the state of the old bridge which had buckled in some sections, traffic had been reduced to one way forcing vehicles to drive all the way through La Parfaite Harmony to Canal Number One road to get to their destinations.
