Thousands of eager school children and youths drawn from the Lower and Central Corentyne area attended a Career and Business Fair on Wednesday last, organised by the eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club with support of the Ministry of Business.
This 2nd Annual Career and Business Fair was held as part of the Club’s Say Yes/Say No Campaign as well as part of the 175th Anniversary of the purchase of Rose Hall in 1842 by its 57 founders from European Planter John Henry Baird.
The event took place along the Rose Hall Town Independence Avenue and was coordinated by Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, Vice President Mark Papannah, Assistant Secretary Simon Naidu, Organising Secretary Keith Hicks, Assistant Organising Secretary Ravin Kissoonlall and Executive Committee Member, Sohan Harry.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster informed that the event was the 515th activity organised by the club this year, stating that the objectives were to educate youths on Careers available in Guyana, inform them on topics of interest to them, educate them about Guyana, inspire them to get involved in business and afford them the opportunity of meeting positive role models from the Business Sector.
He also disclosed that all of the students drawn from twelve schools on the Corentyne Coast visited the Career Fair.
Staff at the various booths had their hands full dealing with the youths who were hungry for information and educational handouts.
The attendance was so massive that some of the booths were out of promotional materials long before the scheduled close off time.
Foster posited that the cricketers of the eight teams are all positive role models who work very hard every day of the year to make a positive difference in the lives of their peers.
Representatives of numerous Companies, Ministries and Schools expressed their satisfaction at being a part of the event, stating that they were overwhelmed with the huge turnout of students who were eager to take advantage to learn more about future careers and Guyana.
Among the fifty companies, ministries and schools attending the Fair were the Bank of Guyana, Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association, Republic Bank, GBTI, Guyana Revenue Authority, Small Business Bureau, PAHO/WHO, National Library, Guyana Post Office Corporation, Guyana Forestry Commission, EPA, National Milling Company, Sueria Manufacturing, Guyana Rice Development Board, National Trust, Guyana Oil Company, Go Invest, Metro, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, Guysuco, Guysuco Training Centre, Upper Corentyne Technical Institute, Ministry of Education, Child Care, Regional Health Authority, Guyana Prison Service, Guyana Fire Service, Guyana Police Force, NARI, Guyana School of Agriculture, Guyana Livestock Development Authority, Fisheries Department, Guyana Marketing Corporation, MMA/ADA, Toxic Chemical Control Board, MOA Hydro meteorological Services, Lower Corentyne Secondary School, J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School, Corentyne Comprehensive High School, Port Mourant Secondary School and Rose Hall Town Nursery.
The Management of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS is expressing gratitude to Minister Dominic Gaskin and the Ministry of Business for the sponsorship of tents for the event.
Special thanks also go out to Regional Chairman David Armogan, Region 6 RDC, Region 6 Ministry of Education – Ms. Volita Jaikisun, the Guyana Police Force ‘B’ Division, Rose Hall Town Mayor Vijai Ramoo, Assistant Commissioner Paul Williams and Bello Grilling Shop.
The eight teams that organised the event are the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Memded Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females and Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division.
