Men going about their daily routines on the streets of Georgetown were yesterday picked up by Police vans, ignorant of where they were going and why.
Police officers yesterday morning picked up a number of men who were merely doing their daily work, to go to a site to clean the compound at Main Street. The men, who were at first described as vagrants, upon becoming aware of the reason that they were brought to the specific site, were very upset of the fact that they were brought to do work.
One complained that he was not even in a physical condition to do work.
“I de goin an buy ice and they just pick me up in the middle ah de road. We ain’t even know where we going.”
He told of how even his bicycle was left in the middle of the road.
Meanwhile, the owner of the burnt building was not even sure who the men were and why they were there. It caused much confusion, since the owner was of the opinion that the men were prisoners. The men were eventually sent to their respective dwelling places after relatives would have explained to the officers that the act was totally inappropriate.
