The Management and Members of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) under the leadership of President Keith Foster is extending congratulations to newly appointed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. George Norton.
Following is the full release from the club: “We are confident that under his astute leadership, sports in Guyana would be taken to a new level and massive development would take place in the youth and culture sectors.
As Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has worked hard over the last 27 years to promote sports, education and culture as the best alternative to a life on the road for youths.
We have worked along with every Minister of Sport and we are confident that the same would continue with Dr. Norton. We are passionate about our work and our commitment to making a positive difference.
We pledge to work along with Dr. Norton to achieve even more success in the future especially in the ancient county of Berbice where so many potential in sports remains unfulfilled due to poor management, lack of facilities, extreme poverty and having to choose between an educational or sporting career.
We would like to encourage Dr. Norton to make special effort to improve facilities across the entire country as Georgetown is not Guyana and to work to strengthen Club Structures. Without a good Management structure, no organisation would survive, while established clubs should receive assistance in the form of gear, finance and coaching.
Minister Norton should also place special emphasis on his staff support especially in Berbice. Sports is about building bridges and in Berbice, there is a Sport Official who is creating division, targeting the outstanding work of several hardworking individuals and playing a major role in an illegal structure that is destroying the number one Sport in Berbice.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, wishes Honourable Minister Dr. Norton all the best in his new appointment and we are confident that together with the dynamic Director of Sports, Christopher Jones, they would take sports to a new level.
Our country needs more Basil Butcher’s, Rohan Kanhai’s, Clive Lloyd’s, June Ann Griffith, Patrick Forde’s, Nicolette Fernandes, Michael Parris, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, James Wren Gilkes and Lennox Blackmore to inspire our youths to Say No to Drugs, Crime, Suicide, Alcohol and Yes to Life, Education, Sports and Religion.
