Investigators are hoping that a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test can solve the puzzle of a missing 63-year-old farmer and what seemed to be burnt human bones, teeth and hair on a farm at Silicone Green, Kuru Kuru, on the Soesdyke/
Linden Highway last May.
Bisundial Vasquez was taking care of the same farm where the police found the human remains among burnt debris on May 17, last—just one week after the man had been reported missing.
Kaieteur News was informed that it was during an alleged break-in at the farm that the father of three went missing. The owner of the farm had suggested to the cops that the elderly man might have taken the stolen items which included a boat engine and fled.
However, after the man did not show up or try to make contact with his children, they made a missing person report and subsequently went to the farm to search for him or any clues that would lead to them finding him.
On their first visit, Hema Mattan said that they found her father’s slippers, a shovel and bag next to a creek, a short distance from the shack in which her father was living.
Kaieteur News was informed that on their second visit to the farm, they were accompanied by ranks from Timehri Police Station. It was during this visit that ranks searched the burnt heap next to the creek and made the shocking discovery.
They also discovered a marijuana farm about 10 miles from where the human remains were found. It is suspected that the murder is linked to the marijuana farm, but this is yet to be confirmed. Reports are that the caretaker would usually bathe at the creek.
If indeed the remains are that of Vasquez, it would mean that the 63-year-old man was killed while on the camp and his killer(s) used the jute bag to take the body to the creek where they burnt it.
Mattan yesterday confirmed that samples were taken from them and they were promised that the DNA will be done as soon as possible. Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum could not be reached to comment on whether the samples left Guyana.
Reshma Bisundial, another daughter of the caretaker, said that her father had made contact with her early in March, when he informed her that he was heading to work.
The elderly man would usually spend about three months at the farm before returning to his Friendship, East Bank Demerara home to spend about a week with his family.
