It will soon be a month and investigators have not made any lead way in the murder of 44-year-old Liyan Jiang whose bound body was found on August 10, last.
A source yesterday indicated that they had checked surveillance footage in the area but were unable to determine who murdered the father of two.
A post mortem examination performed on the remains of Liyan Jiang showed that he died from strangulation, cerebral haemorrhage and asphyxiation.
Jiang’s body was discovered in the bathroom area of his Paradise Chinese Restaurant at Tuschen around 22:00 hrs on a Thursday night.
It is believed that the businessman was murdered some time after 03:00 hrs on Thursday, since he had been gambling online and left around that time to check on a noise he heard. The father of two never returned to his computer to continue his game. He had been running the restaurant by himself while his wife, Lan, was running another restaurant at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The businessman was found gagged, and his hands tied behind his back with a phone charger. His feet were also tied. No blood was found at the scene, but there were marks of violence on the victim’s body. His right cheek was swollen and the entire house was ransacked.
The killers gained entry into the restaurant by removing louvre panes from a bathroom window and then breaking the grill. There was a chair next to the window, indicating that the men left the same way they entered. The restaurant does not have cameras.
The victim’s wife told the police that she last spoke with her husband around 22:00 hrs on Wednesday. When she did not hear from him on Thursday, she called his phone but it went to voicemail.
The woman then asked a male friend in the area to check on him. When the individual went to check, he called several times but did not get a response. Upon entering the building, the friend noticed the restaurant door was partly open and immediately went to the Tuschen Outpost, and returned to the scene with ranks.
When they entered the building, the police observed that the place was ransacked and shortly after, they found the body.
