The Guyana Energy Agency is moving ahead with its intention to resuscitate the Hosororo Hydropower plant. Yesterday, at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), two bids were opened in relation to performing construction work at the Hosororo site.
The new work that is to be done at the site will include the construction of a 20-kilowatt hydropower plant. The Hosororo Creek is 4.6 kilometres south-west of Mabaruma, Region one. The aim of the project is to increase the energy mix of the Mabaruma electricity grid with renewable energy.
There was an initial power plant at the site that was built in the 1980s, complete with a powerhouse and turbine generating 5 kilowatts of power. However the project was deserted a number of years after.
Additionally, under the GEA, bids were opened for the supply and installation of one complete 2.5 kilowatt peak (kWp) and one complete 4.0kWp Stand-Alone Solar photovoltaic systems.
On the side of public security, bids were opened for the construction of a senior officer’s living quarters for the Guyana Police Force (GPF). The procuring entity for this project is the Ministry of Public Security. Twenty-five contractors are competing for this contract.
Bids were also opened for the modification to radio studios for 98.1 and 100.1 Voice of Guyana at the Head Office of the National Communications Network (NCN).
The National Communications Network (NCN) is also the procuring entity for bids that were opened for the supply and installation of a structured cabling solution for the NCN Head Office.
Further, Guyanese in various parts of the country can expect to see better road markings, as bids were opened for thermoplastic road markings to be done on a number of major roads. This project is split into 11 lots. Lot one is the stretch of road from New Amsterdam to Moleson Creek specifically from Canje Bridge to No.35 Village (Macedonia); Lot two is from Macedonia to Moleson Creek; Lot three is from the Mahaica Bridge to Abary Bridge; Lot four is from the Abary Bridge to the Rosignol Stelling; Lot five deals with the pedestrian crossings for the East Coast Demerara four lane highway; Lot six concerns the East Bank Demerara four lane highway; Lot seven is the from Golden Grove on the East Bank of Demerara to Timehri; Lot eight deals with the Soesdyke Linden Highway, specifically from the Soesdyke junction to Loo River; Lot nine is from Loo River to Mackenzie; lot 10 concerns the West Bank of Demerara Highway, from Vreed-en-Hoop to Patentia and Lot 11 is the Essequibo Coast Public Road, from Supenaam to the Pomeroon River.
Further, bids were opened for the rehabilitation of hydraulic systems for the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA). This is being done in five lots.
Additionally, bids were opened for the procurement of one re-conditioned motor vehicle for the Rights Commission.
