– To be buried today
The remains of the Air Services Limited (ASL) pilot, who crashed last Sunday near the Kaieteur
Falls gorge, were brought to the city yesterday around 07:35hrs, by ranks of the Guyana Defence Force.
The overseas-based relatives of Captain Imran Khan, arrived in Guyana sometime yesterday, and were present at a memorial service held at the Ogle Airport last evening. Khan was not married and did not have any children. The service was attended by members of the aviation fraternity among others.
It was disclosed by Executive Manager of ASL, Annette Arjoon, that Khan was employed with the organization for seven years. His remains will be taken to the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG)’s headquarters on Woolford Avenue today, where Muslim rituals will be conducted.
Arjoon reflected that the young captain was one who was beloved, and this was evident by the tremendous numbers of calls they would have received since his passing.
She said that the pilot as well as the aircraft were insured, and further explained that the company’s airplanes are inspected by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) at least every six months to make sure that they are safe.
Captain Khan was flying a Cessna 206 Aircraft between Chi-Chi and Mahdia, Region, when the plane crashed.
