Dear Editor,
“This is the dark time my love.” This quote comes from the Martin Carter poem of the same name and seriously can’t describe the situation of Guyana better. This is no place to raise one’s children. Yes, I am pointing fingers at the Government. It’s been two years since the “APNU + AFC” coalition came into power. They did promise change and we have noticed changes, for the worse. Our economy is at an all time low while crime is at an all time high. The recently imposed value added tax on private education will see students drop out of school and eventually turn to crime. It’s quite clear this Government is in a mess, with President Granger not knowing what to do, except go on vacations and reject GECOM lists of course.
However, they are not the only ones to blame for the country being in this sad state. Kudos to the PPP also. We all knew of the corruption that ensued during their era. Basically, we can call them the trailblazers. In fact, where is Prime Minister Nagamootoo? He promised so much; what he would do if he won the elections and now he’s practically out of sight; a typical carbon of Sam Hinds during his time as Prime Minister; doing absolutely nothing. Gone were the days when the PPP didn’t know what to do while the opposition knew what to do.
Now, the APNU+AFC government is useless while the PPP claims to know what to do. Is this how it’s going to be? The opposition knowing so much but doing so little once they get power? Oh, believe me; I don’t want the PPP back in there. They stole so much and were “power drunk” to the core. I don’t want the coalition back in either. It seems like politics in Guyana is about a bunch of useless old men battling for power so that they can be well off. By the time the next elections come, I will be of age to vote.
I can reassure you all that neither of those two parties mentioned will gain my vote. I noticed a party spring up composed of youths. These are what we need. All the youths need to rise up and repair this country once and for all. Not these old, corrupt wastes (APNU +AFC and PPP) who profess to be politicians. Let this nation prosper and grow and show the world what a wonderful place Guyana can be.
