The Georgetown Mayor and City Council plans to intensify the works done in the Capital City as it relates to solid waste management.
Yesterday, in a statement, the M&CC said that the council will work to provide a complimentary service to the citizens in the Georgetown area. The missive was circulated to the press by the Council’s Public Relations Officer, Debra Lewis.
According to the statement, since last week the council would have collected more than 1703 tonnes of garbage from the city of Georgetown.
The M&CC reported that residents were cooperative during the process. The Council urged that residents should continue to follow the protocol of environmental friendly disposals, since this helps the efficiency of operations being done.
The council also expressed concern that citizens are still littering and considers that as blatant disregard for the environment.
The M&CC said that it has plans to use a number of techniques to improve the environment such as increasing garbage collection, paying more attention to parapets or trenches, institutionalizing more public awareness programs, setting up a community network to monitor and assess the operations done by the different community departments and increasing more anti-littering squad patrols.
The council is appealing to the vendors that they must have appropriate receptacles to dispose their waste.
The council assured that they will continue to keep the city of Georgetown and the local communities clean using the resources at their disposal.
