The Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) at Grove, East Bank Demerara, located a stone’s throw away from a police station was on Monday broken into, during the wee hours of the morning. It was reported that the brazen burglars made off with $5000 cash along with a camera.
Chairman of the Grove NDC, Bharrat Narine said that the thieves seemed to have made their way through the back door of the building which was secured with grills.
He explained that they “wring out the grill and the backdoor,” and were probably of the opinion that they had a safe which contained money, but were presented with the sobering truth after searching the building. Narine noted that the building was not fitted with surveillance cameras.
The Chairman referred this publication to the “overseer”, Richard Mohabir, who said that he was unable to share further information into the matter since he was instructed by policemen not to do so.
Kaieteur News understands that the security guard of the premises was allegedly awakened and raised an alarm, which eventually led to a report being made at the Police Station.
Ranks arrived at the scene at approximately 11:00 am and dusted for fingerprints. Investigations are currently ongoing.
