The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) is extending congratulations the National Under-19 team following their success in the CWI Regional Under-19 three day tournament held in St. Kitts and Nevis over the past three weeks,
winning the title. The board indicated that it looks forward to them completing the double by bringing home the first place trophy of the CWI Regional One Day Tournament. The Regional One Day 50 Overs Tournament is scheduled to commence today in St. Kitts, with Guyana playing its first match against the ICC Americas.
Guyana defeated Jamaica in the Regional Under-19 three day tournament. In the final round, Jamaica finished its first innings on 187 all out in 100 overs, while Guyana compiled 250 runs for 8 declared off 73 overs.
Batting for Jamaica, Brad Barnes top scored with 64 runs, RashniRoye 27, Andre Mc Carty 23, Dominic Samuels 19 and Stephan Pink 14. Bowling for Guyana, Ronaldo Ali Mohamed picked up a brilliant 5 wickets for 30 runs, Ashmed Nedd also picked up 3 wickets for 52 runs, while Richie Looknauth received one wicket from 16 runs.
In Guyana’s first innings, Richie Looknauth scored 61 not out, Ramnarine Chaturamade a half century that of 59 runs followed by Kevlon Anderson’s 38, Javid Karim 28 runs and Ashmed Nedd not out on 24 runs. Bowling for Jamaica was Brad Barnes who swiped up 3 wickets for 45 runs, David Bird took 2 wickets for 61 runs and Andre Mc Carty took 1 wicket for 56 runs.
In the 2ndInnings, Jamaica scored 139 all out after 55.3 overs and Guyana 80 for 1 off of 18.3 overs. Raewin Senior and Darren Small scored 31 and 30 runs respectively, Brad Barnes 25, and Shalome Parnell scored 16 runs. Bowling for Guyana Ronaldo Ali Mohamed and Ashmed Nedd took 4 wickets for 25 and 67 respectively, with Kevin Sinclair supporting well with 2 wickets for 23 runs.
Guyana needing 77 to win made a commanding response reaching the victory target with the loss of just one wicket. Raymond Perez who scored 44 runs off of 61 balls, Javed Karim 17 runs off of 34 balls and Kevin Sinclair 18 runs off of 16 balls saw them home.
