The Guyana Amazon Warriors would have been without their leading wicket-taker from last year’s tournament and one of their better batsmen in an already thin batting line-up for their last six games in the 2017 Hero CPL t20 tournament, including their four home games at Providence from August 17-22.
Pacer Sohail Tanvir and Babar Azam, both Pakistanis, are among 13 who are presently playing in the CPL and in the English County Championships that were recalled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for National and domestic duty.
It is understood that No-Objection Certificates were given to 13 players currently playing in England and the Caribbean. They will have to report to the National Cricket Academy for fitness and medical tests under Coach Mickey Arthur’s supervision on August 22.
Imad Wasim, Shoaib Malik, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, Babar Azam, Mohammad Sami, Sohail Tanvir, and Kamran Akmal are the 10 players from the CPL who have been recalled, but the GAW Franchise confirmed last evening that Tanvir, who does not have a Central Contract, has been allowed to continue his participation in the CPL for the struggling Warriors.
Tanvir, Kamran Akmal and Mohammad Sami had also been asked to return after they were selected by Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore Whites respectively to participate in Pakistan’s National T20 Cup.
“The centrally contracted players were given permission to participate in the CPL and English county season subject to recall if the World XI series took place in mid-September,” the PCB said in a statement. “So they are being recalled owing to the changes in the schedule brought about due to the change in the original plan of the World XI’s tour of Pakistan,” the PCB informed in a release.
But according to the local Franchise, Azam could play at Providence in the first match on August 17 since he and the other recalled players have to report to Coach Arthur on August 22.
“Owing to the late finalisation and rescheduling of the ICC World XI series to be played mid-September, the PCB has been obliged to schedule its National T20 Cup to start near the end of August and finish before the World XI series so that its national team can leave for UAE to play Sri Lanka starting September 24,” the PCB release added.
This forced the PCB to recall the centrally contracted players in contention for selection for the World XI series next month from their ongoing Caribbean Premier League and English county stints.
