For the past three months customers of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) have been unable to receive text messages (SMS) from Digicel customers due to “programming problems” experienced by Digicel. However customers of GTT are able to send messages to Digicel.
This was announced by GTT in a recent press statement.
The local telephone company was notified of the issue by their complaining customers. In relation to the network difficulties that Digicel is experiencing, the technical team at GTT went to work and is rendering support in the effort to solve these issues.
The team is presently guiding and supporting the other network at Digicel, but has not yet been able to collaboratively solve the problem.
The team at GTT has confirmed their continued assistance to the company until regular services are restored.
GTT also expressed gratitude to those who assisted in identifying the alleged masterminds behind their recent sabotage which affected over 20,000 clients, in several communities. Special credit was given to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and members of the public in their address.
Recently, Ricky Singh and Sanjay Seecharran were arrested for the alleged theft of the company’s fiber optic cable which affected landline as well as data services.
GTT stated in the recent press release that, “The arrest and conviction of one of the accused is significant, since it follows shortly on the appeal by both the Government and GTT for the public to report attempts or acts of vandalism and sabotage”.
The sole intent of the stolen cable was for the convicts to secure “financial gains” through the scrap metal industry. It was also a deliberate act of the suspects, according to GTT, to affect the company from doing more for their customers.
With two identified as suspects in the matter, with one being charged as recent as Tuesday last, there are saboteurs who are still on the loose and the company is therefore urging anyone with further information, which will lead to the arrest of these convicts, to contact the relevant authorities.
Information received by the company will be treated confidentially, contact their hotline number on 0908 or 226-2764.
