While the RX pair of seasoned campaigner Dillon Mahadeo and Semonica Duke did not get on to the podium, the duo of debutants Stephen Fraser and Christina Rahman won respective bronze medals at the 2nd annual Crossfit 12-12-12 Throwdown in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday last.
A total of 90 athletes from countries including St. Lucia, St Marten, Barbados, Suriname and the USA participated in what was a very competitive competition.
Following the three events the Scaled (Novice) athletes had to compete in, Christina Rahman (Genesis Fitness Express) and Stephen Fraser (CrossFit592) both landed the bronze medal to ensure that Guyana was on the podium.
The most experienced athlete on the eight (8) member Guyana team, Dillon Mahadeo (CrossFit592) who won bronze last year was unable to make it into the top 5 for the last event after not completing a clean and jerk in event 2B.
Mahadeo had made a mistake with his weight calculation and as a result finished last in that event which made it almost mathematically impossible to recover, especially given the very competitive field he was up against. Overall, he ended in 10th place.
Seomonica Duke (Genesis Fitness Express/CrossFit592) on debut at this international level represented well and was in third place up to event 5 (only top 5 get to event 5) but had to pull out due to injury. Despite, she placed 6th overall.
Team member and another seasoned campaigner Jamie McDonald commented on his teammates, performance: “I’m very proud of their performances given that it was their first time being exposed to the international stage. I am confident that we will be coming on even stronger in future competitions as the sport continues to take off in Guyana.”
Team Guyana comprised of Dillon Mahadeo, Christian McRae, Ian Rogers, Timothy Mc Andrew, Jamie McDonald, King Solomon, Stephen Fraser, Paul Muesa, Semonica Duke and Christina Rahman.
Participation was made possible with the support Fitness Express, Ansa McAl, King Solomon Shipping, N & K Investments, Genesis Fitness and Caribbean Airlines.
