The Guyana Oil Company Limited (Guyoil) yesterday launched two new road tank wagons (RTWs) at its Providence Terminal.
The company’s recent expansion of dealer-owned service stations, which has extended up to 50, coupled with the introduction of the highly successful ultra-low sulphur diesel, has led to the need for the company to increase its delivery capacity. The new tankers will serve to ensure that Guyoil stays true to its motto of “Excellence in Service” through prompt and timely product delivery.
The new fuel tankers have the capacity of six thousand US gallons and will be added to the company’s fleet of fourteen tankers, to supply its extensive network of eight company-owned service stations and dealer service stations in Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice.
The new equipment will also deliver fuel to large customers nationwide.
According to Managing Director, Reggie Bhagwandin, “We are aiming basically to make sure that we get reliable service to the customer in terms of delivery of the product to our customers around the country.”
When questioned on the delivery of the product he said, “We were challenged, put it that way”. He explained, “We were limited, we had some old wagons, as well as sometimes we suffer from a lot of mechanical breakdowns”.
According to him, these new “state-of-the-art wagons” will benefit the company as it relates to time conservation. Along with this, better safety measures are put in place”.
One of the new tankers is priced at approximately $53,000,000 according to the managing director.
Bhagwandin noted that they are committed to transporting their product within 24 hrs and with the new transportation on board, they will be able to not just achieve the target, but attain it with flying colours.
It was stated that in the absence of these two modes, “contract wagons” were also hired by the company so as to facilitate their customers.
