Dear Editor,
I am an unemployed bachelor who resides at 163 Glen Road, Kara Kara since December 2016. In May 2017, my water was disconnected.
After investigation I then discovered that the previous occupants had paid a bill in March 2015 and had a balance of $4,000 plus. My discovery at that time is that I owed $28,000. Upon speaking to one of the personnel in the office she then told me I must pay $16,000 – $10,000 on the bill and $6,000 for reconnection.
I then went and sought some overseas help and got the $16,000. When I returned to pay the $16,000, I did not meet the same personnel, I met another who started to inquiry who gave me such advice, I then told her it was another who did.
She then accepted the money and further told me that I have 2 months to pay the balance $18,000.00, I then told her that I cannot pay that amount of money in such short time, she then told me that is not her problem.
In about 7 weeks my water supply was again cut again. Several weeks after disconnection, I came home to find a bill stuck in my gate upon reading it, I the discovered that I have $23,000 for G.W.I. Upon inquiring I was told even though I am disconnected, I still have to pay $1,300.00 per month.
I asked her if she crazy. I cannot believe that you have to pay for services that you are not receiving. So I’m asking the competent authorities to look into this matter. Speaking to several others they were complaining about various inconsistencies.
So I think this department needs investigating. Another thing, why Linden people have to pay so much for water? Our politicians don’t do their history, they don’t know about the agreement between Alcan and the Mackenzie residents. Also around 1982 under the late L.F.S Burnham, C.I.D.A financed several water treatment plants. What became of them? The citizens of Linden should never suffer the wrath of G.W.I.
