Play continued in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), Banks DIH First, Second and Under-23 Division leagues after a one week hiatus at the Burnham Court with two matches on Wednesday night, last.
In the first, defending champions Bounty Colts hammered Kobras 74-47.
The Colts were not hindered by the league’s brief recess and a picked up with their left off to remain at the top of the Under-23 division.
Timothy Thompson was the best player for the Colts with 21 points in the hard court encounter. He was ably supported by Jafar Gibbons who tipped in 13 points. In the feature match, 2015 Second Division champions Eagles continued to soar high with an exciting but edgy 72-69 victory over University of Guyana Trojans.
The lead went back and forth between the sides throughout the match but Eagles showed more grit in crunch time to come out with the win. The break bode well for the Eagles’ Captain Belgrave who buried a game high 26 points as the national youth and senior player led from the front. Shamar Huntley continued to impress with his consistency pouring in a valuable 15 points for the winners.
The tournament continues tomorrow night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with three more matches.
