The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI) is now giving their customers a safer and easier way to shop with their migration to the VISA EMV (chip cards). Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EMV) “is a global standard for credit cards which uses computer chips to authenticate (and secure) chip-card transactions.
The company has progressed with this initiative for its VISA Gold and VISA Classic cards along with the VISA Travel Classic pre-paid card.
With this initiative comes numerous advantages to its users which include fraud reduction, hence creating credit card transactions safer and intensifying the customer’s experience.
According to the bank, “The embedded microchip on the card stores data more securely, preventing it from being easily copied or altered. The unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) means that only you can use your card and do so securely. These cards are also globally accepted, including in Europe and in the UK.”
Instead of swiping your card, the new technology offers a “dip” of the card in the slot to the base of the terminal, which is the only difference customers will notice while using the chip cards to shop at merchants.
The bank urges present customers to visit the Card Centre at the Regent Street Branch or any of the branches closest to them to request the new card and also to experience the security of the GBTI’s Visa Chip Cards.
GBTI said that their customers’ security is of utmost importance and that they are always exploring new methods of protection.
