Over the years, the main roads and bridges in Free and Easy have been deteriorating and nothing has been done. Free and Easy is a village located on the West Bank of Demerara, 12 miles south of Vreed-en-Hoop.
Promises were made by Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson on December 31, last, to look into the matter, but according to concerned residents, nothing was done since.
The terrible roads that Claudius Charles and Trevorlene Seeram refer to as “sores”, pose a problem for vehicles and pedestrians alike; and are especially dangerous for road users at nights.
Claudius Charles said that the village is known for agricultural production. The road poses yet another problem for products to be transported from the village to the market.
Charles stated that this community is home to more than 300 people who are directly dependent on the roads for an income. He explained that Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) workers still use these roads.
The roads keeps eroding and despite several complaints, with the most recent being made this week, nothing is being done except promises.
