A minibus conductor yesterday made an appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded guilty to a charge of malicious wounding.
Twenty-two-year-old Paul Smith of Lot 505 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on July 22, last, at Croal Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Tonya George.
When given the opportunity to address the court the man said, “I was dreaming that I was having sex with a girl and the place been getting too crowded so when I stretch out my hands that’s how she get hit. I already told her sorry.”
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that on the day in question about 10:20hrs George was walking towards the 45 minibus park between two vehicles when the accused who was also walking in the same direction approached her and dealt her a punch to the face.
The court heard that the blow caused George to collapse. Public-spirited persons took her to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was examined by a doctor.
The prosecutor added that the victim received a laceration to the left jaw bone.
The matter was then reported to the Brickdam Police station and the accused was arrested and charged.
The magistrate after listening to the accused told the court that the accused will be placed in the custody at the Psychiatric ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for him to be examined by Senior Government Psychiatrist Dr Bhiro Harry.
The accused will make his next court appearance on August 9 when a report will be handed to the magistrate before sentencing.
