‘B’ Division Commander Paul Williams, and his Deputy Edmond Cooper, are assuring Berbicians that the security of the region is on their priority list with Operation “Focus”. Williams opined that in light of the recent capture of
Stafrei Alexander security protocals will not be relaxed.
“We want Berbicians to know that not because Stafrei Alexander is arrested means that security will be relaxed. We are gonna keep at it and maintain posture with a high level of security alertness and we gonna be doing operation “Focus”, every little aspect as it relates to crime and traffic lawlessness we are going to be targeting,” Williams stressed.
He further explained that they still have a job to do. “We have robberies and other things likely to happen and it simply means that we need to be on top of the situation”.
The Commander is therefore asking that the media along with Berbicians work together with him as it relates to the disseminating of information connected to a crime or suspect.
Under the leadership of Williams, ranks in Berbice were able to capture Stafrei Alexander in an unfenced yard aback of Topoo, Hampshire, Corentyne, Berbice. The house situated in the said yard was used as a hide out for Alexander. He reportedly ate sugarcane to survive while on his hideout. Alexander was eventually caught after an intelligence-led operation commenced at 20:00hrs on Friday. The Commander confirmed that he was nursing a gunshot wound to the leg, an injury he sustained about a week ago after police received reports that he was seen in the Port Mourant backlands.
He was treated at the Port Mourant Hospital in the company of the police and was subsequently taken into custody. Williams also confirmed that the wound was exposed giving an indication that he was not being treated and assisted by anyone for the injury.
Alexander reportedly told ranks that he was alone while the others went their separate ways, Williams said. Four persons were detained and released the said evening of the fugitives capture.
Meanwhile, just recently a quantity of improvised weapons and cell phones were discovered during a prison search after information got around to ranks that inmates might be attempting to cause a disturbance similar to Camp Street Prison Fire.
There were reports that they were trying to smuggle contraband and other illegal items into the prison.
