Following two scintillating semi final clashes, Future Stars proved their billing with a huge upset win, toppling Sparta Boss 7-6 in a ding dong clash, while West Front Road-Gold is Money in another epic, outlasted Back Circle in a 7-5 to both advance to the final of the GT Beer Keep Your 5 Alive KO Futsal Tourney.
Witnessed by a capacity crowd at the National Gymnasium on Saturday night, Sparta Boss, which held the title as the best in this format of the sport, looked to be coasting to another final and on the rebound following their exit in the Guinness Greatest of the Streets football championship which was won by Linden’s Dave and Celina All Stars.
Future Stars, a combination of young players took the fight to their moiré seasoned and experienced opponents as they sought to throw the likes of Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Devon Millington and Eusi Phillips off their game.
Initially, that did not work as Richardson fired his team to an early 2-0 advantage with strikes in the 6th and 8th minutes and part of his celebratory routine was to pass by the Future Stars bench to emphasize that he is still the boss.
But, like Richardson who netted a hat-trick, Future Stars’ Kevin Cummings responded in like manner, slotting in his first in the 10th minute to halve the deficit at that point.
The score was tied at 5-5 and as it turned out Future Stars succeeded in out bossing Sparta to walk away with a huge win at 7-6 and a chance to win the top prize of $500,000 but will have to get past another determined side, West Front Road.
The boys from the West, on account of Hubert Pedro’s helmet-trick defeated Back Circle 7-5 in a thrilling clash. Back Circle had clawed back from 0-2 down to equalize and even take the lead by the West Front Road side showed lots of grit and determination to come back and eventually take the win.
