It’s that time of the year when the marquee event on the body building calendar is set to unfold on the stage, much to the desire of the athletes and fans.
This year’s event, the first under the Presidency of Coel Marks, is set to break new grounds as will be held at the classy Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown beginning at 19:00hrs sharp where the 2017 Mr. Guyana will be crowned as well as Ms. Bikini Best Body and Ms. Body Fitness.
According to Marks, it will be a night to remember as he and his team are pulling out all the stops to ensure a glitzy night of entertainment where cash and other prizes will be awarded to the top athletes.
“We have some great athletes lined up despite the reigning champ’s presence is still tentative. All the competitors are very anxious to grace the stage at one of the largest venues a body building show has been hosted in recent years.”
Marks, is of the view that the venue will draw a very diverse audience, admission is $2,500.
“Mr. Guyana this year will be taking away a six figure prize, our goal is to make sure our athletes feel incentivized as much as possible because without them, we have no show.”
Apart from the on stage rivalry where athletes will be seeking to out-flex each other with the aim of getting the judges nod as the best, Marks also informed that a number of entertainment pieces are on the menu for fans to be continuously engaged.
“A surprise artist will also be showcased and I do believe that the night will see lots of fun being served up as we have a packed show, displaying Guyana’s best for the consumption of our valued supporters and fans,” Mars said.
The following categories will be contested on the night with weigh-in set for 09:00hrs – 13:00hrs; Men’s Physique, Lightweight, Welterweight, Bantamweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight, Masters, Ms. Bikini Best Body and Ms. Body Fitness.
Kaieteur Sport spoke with defending champion Clarke who indicated that he would not be competing but was encouraged to come out and compete as it won’t be encouraging for him to lose his title without a fight.
The champion still maintained that he is not certain about competing but we still have a few more days to championship night and Clarke might very well have a change of mind which would be fantastic for the sport.
Clarke has won the Mr. Guyana crown for the past four years successively and once he graces the stage he would be competing against old rivals, Godfrey Stoby, Sylvester Andrews, Rhon Lonke and Novice champion, Nolan Smith in the battle of muscles.
Tickets for the show are available at Space Gym, Buddy’s Gym, Fitness 53, Fitness Express and all other Supplement Stores. There would be no Guest poser this year as Marks shared the view that the monies usually expended for that individual will be going towards the athletes.
