After convincing wins on their separate opening matches, traditional powerhouse Georgetown will seek to dominate West Demerara in their night cap game tonight of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) promoted GT Beer Sunday Night Super Cup Inter Association match-up at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
This big Group B Clash is going to set the tone for what one can expect for the rest of this tournament. Of recent the boys from West Demerara have shown that they can compete with the best of the nation and in this encounter football fans will be able to assess if the 6-0 clobbering of Bartica by Georgetown is anything to go by as it relates to their superiority.
West Demerara on the other hand brushed aside the challenge of Berbice and would want to improve on that with a win tonight.
However, with both teams not looking as familiar as one anticipated, the game which follows the first at 19.00hrs pitting Berbice against Bartica, who lost respective games to West Demerara and Bartica, would hope to win and stay in with a chance of reaching the final four of the eight association tournament, coming out of their group of four.
Therefore tonight’s matches are important to all four teams as they tussle for semifinal berths with two more rounds of play left in the preliminary round of this eight association tournament where over $6M in total prize money and incentives are at stake.
Hosts Upper Demerara by virtue of winning two of their scheduled three matches, with one in hand are almost assured to make it to the final four as would either Georgetown or West Demerara with victory tonight. With that in mind the matches are serious encounters which should have a great following of curious football fans wanting to greatly assess their home team’s chances of carting off the top prize of $2M in this inaugural tournament.
