The day of reckoning has come and the 2017 champions of the Digicel’s Schools Football championship will be decided today at the Leonora Track and Field Facility.
Defending champs Chase Academy will come up against Annai in the championship match at 6:00pm. However, before that, Christianburg Wismar will collide with DC Caesar Fox of Waramadong in the third place playoff at 4:00pm.
Chase Academy defeated Christianburg Wismar 5-4 on penalties in the first semi final, while Annai came from 4-0 down to beat DC Caesar Fox Secondary of Waramadong 7-5 in injury time.
Chase Academy dominated the opening proceedings in their semifinals and one can only wonder if they can do the same against an impressive, tenacious Annai. Jeremy Garrett, Kevin Padmore and Shemar Smith will lead the defending champs challenge and they will look to repeat.
Easier said than done; Annai are the giant killers, new kids on the block, shocking DC Caesar Fox with their come from behind triumph after being 4 goals down.
Led by the Daniels clan of Sherral, Naidison and Orville, Annai will come hard at Chase and an explosive final is anticipated.
The preceding contest between old foes will set the tone for the evening closer when Christianburg Wismar battle DC Caesar Fox of Waramadong in the curtain raiser.
Fireworks is anticipated and fans are encouraged to come and don’t miss a minute of the rivetting action expected.
Kudos to Digicel for bringing another exciting and entertaining tournament that has displayed the immense talent on offer to Guyana from the school system.
Fans are in for a treat.
