Triple headers have been fixed for today and tomorrow as play in the Hamilton Green Cup Knockout Football tournament continues at the Victoria Ground on the East Coast of Demerara.
The tournament started last evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden.
Kicking off from 4:00pm on both days, the opening play today will see Plaisance of the East Coast face Cougars of New Amsterdam. Following on pitch at 6:00pm, Golden Grove tackle Golden Warriors in a meeting of two East Coast teams, while in the nightcap at 8:00pm Buxton Bakewell of the East Coast challenge Pouderoyen of the West Demerara.
Tomorrow, Mahaicony battle Grove Hi Tech in the opening fixture, while to follow Mahaica come up against Riddim Squad in a meeting of teams representing the East Coast and East Bank Demerara, while home side Ann’s Grove collide with Pele of Georgetown in the nightcap.
Several of the leading players representing the teams involved will be in action including Calvin Lilly, Rondel Jacobs and Peter Wilson who will all be looking to lead their teams to victory.
The Teams are battling for attractive prizes which include $500,000 and the Minister of Citizenship trophy for the winner, $250,000 and the Busta trophy, $150,000 and the John Fernandes trophy and $100,000 and the Cummings Electrical trophy respectively for the other top three finishers.
Former national footballer and Coach Lennox Arthur is the coordinator of the event.
The final of the tournament has been fixed for the Leonora Sports Facility on September 3.
