Two teenagers were yesterday jailed for one year each after they pleaded guilty to stealing a motorcycle. Imposing the sentence was Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Shaquille Mentore, 18, of Plaisance Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara; and Akeem Pashur, 18, of Lot 18 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara admitted that between July 24 and July 25 at Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, they stole a black and red Honda XR 150 motorcycle valued $425,000. The bike belonged to Hanaiyah Warde.
Police Prosecutor Harris told the court that on July 24 about 12:30 hrs Warde parked his vehicle CH 8477 in his yard which is secure by a fence.
The court heard that on July 25 about 04:30 hrs the victim made checks for his motorcycle and he discovered that it was missing. The matter was then reported to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost.
Police ranks on mobile patrol later noticed the defendants on the bike and gave chase after them.
The court heard that the defendants upon seeing the police, dropped the bike and ran away.
They were subsequently apprehended and charged.
The prosecutor went on to tell the court that Mentore was previously charged for robbery under-arms.
