Councillor of Constituency Albouystown and Charlestown Malcolm Ferreira is on a mission to empower the youths in those areas and other surrounding communities to join the Ambitious Future Leaders youth group to help them stay away from crime.
Ferreira said that after he was elected, he realised that the youngsters in these areas had no proper structures in place to teach them, so he decided to start the club.
Ferreira noted that the group has over 400 youths between ages 6-19 years old.
“They will be starting their youth camp next month because they are currently cleaning the Albouystown community.”
He said that the main objective of the youth group is to create a safe space where youths can be allowed to have their creativity put forward and acted upon.
“Too many workshops are happening and nothing is coming out from them, so my team and I would like to create a safe place where the creativity of children could be enhanced, nourished, encouraged and be presented to those in authority.”
Ferreira said that the group has so far conducted numerous activities in and around various communities and they will be focussing more on technology and science.
Also the team on July 14 launched the Mahaicony Future Leader Club and the organisers were able to allow members of various clubs to interact and engage in sport activities.
