Bandits shot and beat a North Success, East Coast Demerara businessman at around 03:00hrs yesterday before fleeing with valuables they had loaded into his vehicle.
Khemraj Tula, 58, was shot to his left hand and struck with a cutlass after two men, one carrying a handgun and the other armed with a cutlass pounced upon him and his wife when they were about to enter their home.
According to information the businessman and his wife arrived home sometime around 03:00hrs in their Toyota Rav4, number PLL 1392 and was about to enter the house when they were confronted by the two men.
One of the men shot Tula in the left hand, while the other struck him repeatedly with a cutlass.
The robbers then took the injured man and his wife into the house where the gathered the family’s valuables. They then escaped with the loot in the businessman’s vehicle. Police said that the stolen vehicle has since been recovered.
After the incident family members rushed the businessman to the Woodlands Hospital. No arrests have been made.
Police on the East Coast of Demerara also reported at least two other robberies on Saturday night and early yesterday.
Kaieteur New was told that a group of men invaded a Better Hope residence shortly after midnight where a group of women were having a birthday gathering.
After scaling a fence and invading the home, the intruders beat the occupants, and relieved them of cash, jewellery and mobile phones.
