After several weeks of searching for the deportee who viciously chopped his wife to death at her Sheet Anchor home, East Canje, the hunt came to an abrupt end when his decomposed body was found dangling from a tree in the Canje River.
Kaieteur News understands that the body of Goldburn December called “Goldie” was found yesterday morning.
Commander of B Division Ian Amsterdam confirmed with this publication that police found the remains after receiving a report that someone noticed a body hanging from a tree at the Fort Ordinance Foreshore.
“We got a call that a body was seen hanging from a tree, the ranks responded, of course they had to get in there by boat. They went in and brought the body out where his (the deceased’s) son positively identified him by a scar on his foot”.
According to Amsterdam, the state of the decomposition of the body indicates that he would have committed suicide a little over a week.
The son, Joshua December, relayed to this publication that he received a message from a villager that his father’s body was seen hanging in a tree.
“When I get the message I borrow somebody boat and me and me friends dem go and search the bush where dem seh he deh. After we search we ain’t find he, so while swimming back to the boat, one ah me friend see something hanging from a tree and he seh how it look like me father.”
According to him upon a closer inquiry he confirmed that it was his father.
“The body did done buss up, so we go out back fo the police and they bring he out”.
The young man explained that it was difficult seeing his father in such a condition since they were close and worked together. He noted that even though his father killed his mother he still had love for him.
Just a few weeks ago while in the process of moving out from the Lot 19 Sheet Anchor premises, Mintie Karamchand was approached by her reputed husband Goldburn December. Both parties reportedly exchanged a few words.
When their 21-year-old daughter Drucilla December ventured to the lower flat of the two storey home, she found her mother bleeding profusely from wounds to her limbs.
She said the wounds were inflicted with a chopper.
Whilst holding her infant in hand, she attempted to save her mother by intervening but was ordered by her father to move.
The young woman fled the yard and screamed for help, but no one came.
An eyewitness recounted seeing Karamchand lying in a pool of blood and still breathing when December, still enraged, ran back into the yard to finish her off.
He then escaped on foot.
She succumbed at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The husband was reportedly deported from Suriname about a month ago and was staying at the Sheet Anchor home with Karamchand, their daughter and grandchild. The daughter stated that they were not romantically involved since her mother had moved on, however, this created jealousy on December’s part, and as a result there were frequent arguments between the two.
