A Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) contract worker is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, (GPHC) after he was suffered burns from an electric shock while doing work on a utility pole, yesterday.
The injured man, identified as Percy Henry, was transported to the GPHC after he sustained burns about his legs, arms and shoulders.
An hour before, Henry had been working on a utility pole at Providence, East Bank Demerara, when he was reportedly struck by high voltage.
Henry’s co- worker, who was present at the time of the ordeal, said that Henry was wearing protective gear when the incident occurred. Although he could not determine exactly what caused it, the worker speculated that the level of voltage might have caused Henry to pitch from the pole.
“I had to cut off he clothes so that it won’t stick unto him, but I really can’t say how it happened.”
Kaieteur News was told that Henry was rushed to the hospital in less than an hour after sustaining the injuries. Workers of E-Networks were said to have assisted in transporting Henry.
In 2014 another GPL worker miraculously escaped death after his ordeal with electricity.
The GPL worker was left dangling for several minutes from a utility pole at Cinema Road, Melanie Damishana on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
Weeks before that, a technician from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company was electrocuted while he was carrying out work on a utility pole at Vryheid’s Lust also on the East Coast of Demerara.
